Xiao Zixian stated that in The Book of Southern Qi, “Xiakou City has a stronghold called Yellow Crane Rocky Beach. Legend says immortal Zi’an ever visited the rocky beach riding a yellow crane.” In this way, the immortal was given a full name “Wang Zi’an” for the first time.

The 6th Year (462) of Song’s Daming Period

Bao Zhao wrote On the Yellow Crane Rock, namely the first-ever poem about this rocky beach. Then in the 5th Year (469) of Song’s Taishi Period, Zu Chongzhi composed Records of Strange Tales, including the story of Jiangling native Xun Huan. Xun met and talked to a crane-riding immortal at the tower. That is the earliest written record about it.
