With Azalea Garden seated a stone’s throw away, Mume Garden lies on the east end of the northern slope of Snake Mountain. Go west 418 m and you will see Yellow Crane Tower; go southwest 144 m and you will find White Cloud pavilion. The coverage of 6000 m2 means this garden is the largest of all three ones. Its construction lasted from 1987 to 1989. Thus far, the garden has been a haven for 1,000 trees of more than 20 species, most of which are introduced from that mume garden at Moshan, Donghu as well as from Ma’anshan. Armeniaca mume ‘Fenhong Zhusha,’ Armeniaca mume ‘Xiaohong Zhusha,’ Armeniaca mume ‘Bian Lü'e,’ Armeniaca mume ‘Xiao Lü'e,’ Armeniaca mume ‘Yinhong Taige,’ Armeniaca mume ‘Yudie’ and Armeniaca mume ‘Fenghou’ are, among other species, all true rarities indeed.
As the flower of Wuhan, mume has been loved for its bravery and tenacity. Mume blossoms not only add a new attraction to the park, but even give all tourists a fresh getaway to enjoy a floral extravaganza. In each early spring—exactly the 3rd lunar month, all such trees burst into white or red blossoms, diffusing a brisk fragrance for many miles. So, no mume aficionado would miss the great chance.
From 1992 onwards, the park has planted a cluster of winter-sweets. Such shrubs love to grow in shady places and bloom in the depth of winter. Each time the flowering period comes, this nook scatters a pristine scent far and near. Those ravishing shrubs of the northern slope almost become a must-see wintersight.
