Azalea Garden 217 m east of Yellow Crane Tower lies on the mid-section of the northern slope of Snake Mountain. This garden sprawls 4,190 m2 on the east, west and north sides of White Cloud Pavilion. In the beginning of construction, 11,400 seedlings were transported from Ningbo, Zhejiang and planted along the slope in a J-shaped manner. Next year it became a natural extravaganza.
The greatest boast of this garden is summer azalea that flowers quite long. Most summer azaleas are rose-red, but some ones are pink-red or orange-red. From May to June every year, all azaleas break into full bloom. That stretch of land therefore feels as if being covered with a tapestry of variegated colours. As a shady species, azalea on the northern slope of Snake Mountain grows at its best. In winter, flowering azaleas become a wonder of the indigenous landscape. Yet the park has a few small trees like red pokan. These trees make the garden more like a motley array of various hues.
